WIDMAN, ZIMBECK, MILLER

April 1, 1944 - Carroll Times - George Widman, Sr., who was 90 years old last October, died yesterday noon in the McVay Hospital at Lake City, where he had been a patient about three weeks. The body is now at the Squires Funeral Home in Lake City but is being returned to the home of Mr. Widman's daughter, Mrs. S.C. Zimbeck at Lanesboro. Funeral services are to be at 2:30 Monday afternoon at the Methodist Church here with the pastor, the Rev. J.H. Freedline, officiating. Burial will be in the Lanesboro Cemetery.

Mr. Widman was born Oct. 20, 1853, at Sherril, Dubuque County, Iowa. He was married to Miss Katherine Miller May 17, 1877, at Dubuque. In 1880 Mr. and Mrs. Widman came to Carroll County from Dubuque and settled on a farm one mile south of Lanesboro. This was before the town of Lanesboro was started. Mr. Widman moved into town after his retirement from the farm.

Since the death of his wife, Jan 13, 1923, he had made his home with his daughter, Mrs Zimbeck. Last Oct. 20, Mr. Widman celebrated his 90th birthday, with all of his children at the Zimbeck home for the event.

Surviving are six children and several grandchildren. His children are: Ed Widman, Claire City, S. D.; Ben and Frank Widman, Manchester, S.D. ; George Widman, Jr., Storm Lake; Mrs. S.C. Zimbeck and Ralph Widman Lanesboro. Another daughter Louise, died at the age of two years. Mr. Widman was the last of family of five children. He was a member of the Daily Times Herald Three Quarter Century Club.
