Oct 2, 1946 - Carroll Times - Lake City — Funeral services were held at the family home here Monday afternoon for Mrs. Mary Dewey, who died September 26 at the age of 81 years. Methodist church officiated. Burial was beside her husband in Mt. Hope cemetery, Carroll county, and pallbearers were six nephews: W.A. Mahe, Charles Mahe, George Wright, George Naisbitt, Charles Naisbitt, and Joseph Naisbitt.

Mrs. Dewey, daughter of John and Martha Clark, was born in England March 2, 1865. She came with her parents to the United States when only five years old. The family settled in Collinsville, Illinois, where she spent her early girlhood. When she was 16 years old the family moved to Des Moines, where she married John W Dewey of Farnhamville on March 2, 1887. Her husband and she spent the first 13 years of their married life in Calhoun county. In 1900 and they moved to Carroll county, where they lived until 1911, when they went to Des Moines.

Coming to Carroll county in 1943, Mrs Dewey lived at her home in Lake City until her death.

Mrs. Dewey leaves five sons: Alfred, Glidden; Albert, Boise, Idaho; Arthur, Lake City; Joseph and John, Portland, Ore.; four sisters and one brother. Her husband died May 6, 1915. She was also preceded in death by three sisters and one brother. When a child she was baptized in the church of England, to which faith she adhered during her life.
