Sept 2, 1909 - Carroll Times - Saturday afternoon the mortal remains of Mrs. Wm. Wegner, whose death on Wednesday morning, August 25th, we mentioned last week, were borne to St. Paul's Lutheran church, where Pastor Eschbach conducted the solemn obsequies, the interment took place at the city cemetery, the following being all bearers; Jacob Sievers, Tobe Janssen, John Platt, Chris Pluckhahn, Dan Wenck, and Chris Wenck. A large number of friends and old neighbors were present from this city, Sheridan and Grant townships.

Friedericke Schuett was born at Stormsdorf Kr. Franzburg, Vorpommern, Germany, February 22, 1828. She received her schooling and religious instruction there, and was confirmed as a member of the Lutheran church.

October 14, 1859, she was united in marriage to Wm. Wegner by Pastor Bingelsdorf and they resided in their native village until coming to America in 1868. They resided in Chicago until they removed to the farm in Sheridan township in this county which they had purchased in 1870. They continued to reside there until they came to this city in 1894, having purchased their home in Maple Park where they since resided.

Mr. and Mrs. Wegner were respected and esteemed by their neighbors in Sheridan township as well as in this city. Departed was a devout christian woman who sought to live and rear her family in the love and fear of God. When illness came about two months ago, she accepted her pain and sufferings with Christian resignation. In her illness she had the tender care of her daughters and sons, who with the aged father now mourn the beloved mother. They constantly visited the parental home and the sufferer found great comfort in their presence.

Their names and residence areas are as follows: Minnie, Mrs. Louis Reker, Chicago, Illinois; Chas. and Wm. Wegner, Carroll, Iowa; Sophia, Mrs. Fred Tiedge, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and Henry T. Wegner of Sheridan township in this county. They were all present at the funeral, as was Mr. Fred Tiedge and son Wm, of Cedar Rapids. The numerous descendants of the good dutiful mother, include 20 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

When the serious character of her last illness appeared, the devout Christian woman asked for the Lord's Supper and felt consoled by the spiritual ministrations of the pastor, resigning herself to Jesus, she remained conscious to the last and when the 25th of August came, which she vividly remembered as the date of her father's death in 1855, she seemed to feel that it would see her own demise. It proved as she desired, her spirit leaving the weary body for a happier land at 7:30 o'clock in the morning.

The bereaved ones who mourn a good loving kind wife, mother and grandmother, have our warmest sympathy. They have lost her earthly presence and love, but the journey to the heavenly home, faith teaches, is one of joy and should pour hope and consolation into our hearts to make us long for the eternal reunion.

The husband, sons, and daughters of Fredericke Wegner dec'd, desire to extend their sincerest appreciation to all who befriended and assisted them during the long illness, after the death and at the funeral of their loved one.
