Aug 7, 1919 - Carroll Times - William Carl Wegner, one of the highly respected citizens of this county, died Monday afternoon, August 4, at 2:46 o'clock at the home of his son, Charles, with whom he made his home. The funeral was held yesterday at 3 o'clock at the Lutheran church in Carroll, Rev A Mueller officiating. Interment was made in the Carroll cemetery.

William Carl Wegner was born in Meckelburg, Schwerin, Germany, May 10, 1831 and came with his family to America October 22, 1865, locating in Chicago. They lived there until March 26, 1876 when they moved to Sheridan township, Carroll county. In 1904 they located in this city, where Mrs. Wegner died August 22, 1909.

In 1916 Mr. Wegner took up his abode with his son, Charles, living 10 miles north of Carroll, who operates the old homestead. Mr. Wegner is survived by three sons and one daughter, Charles, William and Henry, and Mrs. Sophie Tiedje of Cedar Rapids. Another daughter, Mrs. Minnie Reker, of Chicago, died four years ago. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
