Sept 30, 1941 - Carroll Times - Edward J. Broderick, 56, well known not only in Carroll but also in this section of the state, died at the St. Anthony Hospital at 5:45 p.m. Monday, the victim of a cerebral hemorrhage which he suffered at his home about 6 o'clock that morning. He had been taken to the hospital immediately after he was stricken, his condition remaining unchanged until death claimed him.

Mr Broderick was district manager for the Mutual Benefit Health and Accident Association and the United Benefit Life Insurance Company of Omaha. He also represented the Employers Mutual Casualty Insurance Company of Des Moines. As district manager of the two Omaha companies, he had fourteen counties under his supervision. He was also president of the district managers of Iowa of these an honor bestowed on him at the annual meeting in Omaha last October....

Ed Broderick, as he was generally known, had lived in Carroll since he was a small boy. He was born March 10, 1885, at Kingsley, Ia., a son of Thomas B. and Rose Antonini Broderick, who moved to Carroll a few years after his birth. Following the completion of his schooling here, Mr. Broderick worked in the grocery store of the late John Schachtner and also in the Rich & Lena Hardware Store. He also served as deputy clerk of the district court under the late Julius Ruge before taking up railroad work. For a number of years he was a switchman in the local yards of the Chicago & North Western Railway Company. Nov. 29, 1921, he went into the insurance business, starting work at that time for the two Omaha companies which he represented until his death.

April 26, 1930 he was married to Miss Maude Youngman of Tama, a former member of the Carroll public school faculty.

Surviving with his wife is one sister. Mrs. John K. Macke (Rose) of Oakland, Calif. His father died Aug. 30, 1893, at Carroll and his mother Oct. 21, 1923, at Oakland, Calif. His mother was brought to Carroll for burial beside her husband. Mr. Broderick's only brother, Will Broderick, died at Sacramento, CA Jan 13, 1919.

Mr. Broderick sister, Mrs. Macke, will arrive here from Oakland Wednesday morning. Mrs. Brodericks brother and sister-in-law, Mr & Mrs Ed Youngman and nephew, George Youngman, all of Tama are here having arrived yesterday.
