Preston T Waples 1875-1957

WAPLES, HOADLEY, FARWELL

May 1, 1957 - Carroll Daily Times - Death claimed P. T. Waples, 82, at 2 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony Hospital, where he had been a patient for a week. He had been in declining health about 18 months. The body is at the Huffman Funeral Home awaiting completion of arrangements.

Mr. Waples came to Carroll about 1920, when he began working for the Midland Mortgage Company of Cedar Rapids, with his headquarters here. Later, he became a farm fieldman for the Connecticut General Life Insurance Company. He retired about 12 years ago.

Born Feb. 23, 1875 at Missouri Valley, Mr. Waples was reared at Castana, where he attended school. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Waples. Mr. Waples had been a watchmaker in his youth. He had been assistant postmaster and postmaster at Castana and had farmed in the Castana area.

He was married to Josephine Hoadley of Castana nearly 60 years ago. Mr and Mrs Waples had celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Mrs. Waples died in 1951. The family home has been at 1020 North Court Street here since 1925.

Surviving Mr. Waples are two sons: Darrell Waples, Rutland, S. D, and Dr. Norman E. Waples, Jefferson; 12 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; one brother F.C. Waples of Cedar Rapids, president of the Midland Mortgage Company; and one sister, Mrs. Mary Farwell, Onawa.

A son, Ivan L. Waples of Lincoln, Neb., died in 1946. Also deceased are two brothers: Harry W. Waples of Castana and E.S. Waples of Jefferson. Mr. Waples, a member of Carroll Lodge No, 279, I.O.O.F., and had held various offices in the organization. He was a member of the Rebekah Lodge at Castana.
