April 15, 1972 - Carroll Daily Times - Floyd Robert Russell, 47, of Stanhope, formerly of Carroll, was killed in a two-truck collision on Interstate 80 about two miles east of Princeton, Illinois, Friday. He was a son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. V.H. Christianson of Carroll.

Russell, a trucker for Northrup Truck Lines of Stanhope, was reported to be enroute from Detroit, Mich., to Storm Lake with a load of hogs. Authorities said the truck driven by Russell hit the rear of another westbound truck. A passenger in Russell's truck, Benjamin Rooney, 15, of Evanston, Illinois, was also killed and another passenger, Susan Harmon, 16, of Evanston, was injured.

Services for Mr. Russell will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Dahn-Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll. The Rev. Allan M. Peterson, minister of the First Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery, with military honors by Maurice Dunn Post No. 7, American Legion. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Mr. Russell was born at Barnard, Mo., May 18, 1924, a son of Leo J. and Vesta Brewer Russell. He was married to Devota Christianson at Carroll July 30, 1950, and they moved from here to Stanhope two years ago. While living in Carroll Mr. Russell was employed by Bliss Tire Service and Heider Manufacturing Company. He served in the United States Navy four years during World War II. He was affiliated with the Baptist Church and was a member of the American Legion.

Surviving with his wife are five children, Mrs. Frank (Kittie Alice) Farnsworth of Des Moines, Roberta M. of Carroll, Leo of Stanhope, Terry and Mrs. Mike (Marie) McCary, Commerce City, Colo.; and six grandchildren.

A son, Allen, his parents, and grandparents preceded him in death.
