July 18, 1988 - Carroll Times - Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll for Johnny J. Veerhusen, 62, of Carroll, who died Saturday, July 16, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll following a long illness. The Rev. Charles Haake will officiate the services. Burial will be at the Carroll city cemetery with military honors by the Maurice Dunn Post of the American Legion. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. Organist for the service will be Mrs. Charles Haake, and the congregation will sing.

Casket bearers will be Dave Farrell, Eugene Johnson, Richard Brotherson, Leo "Shorty" Petersohn, Bill Chase and O.J. "Doc" Langenfeld. Honorary casket bearers will be Roy Farrell and George Yarbrough. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today at Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll. Family will meet with friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Born Jan. 29, 1926 at Pocahontas County, he was a son of John Henry and Emma (Wenzel) Veerhusen. He graduated with honors from Lake City High School. On Dec. 11, 1954 he was married to Elvira Becker at the Lutheran Church in Lytton. Mr. Veerhusen had worked for Heider Manufacturing for more than 35 years and then was self employed as a Volkswagen auto repairman until 1984. He had lived most of his life in Carroll. He served in the Army in World War II and was a member of the American Legion.

Mr. Veerhusen is survived by a daughter, Linda (Mrs. Mark) Kessinger of Council Bluffs; a son, Randy Veerhusen of Warren, Mich.; a daughter, Karen Veerhusen Langerud of Grinnell; three grandchildren; two brothers, Raymond and his wife, Rose, of Fort Dodge, and Donald and his wife, Beulah, of Lake City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elvira, in 1981; a son, Jerry, in 1968; and a brother, Clarence.
