OBIT: Coon Rapids Enterprise, August 3, 1961 edition.
Requiem Mass was held at 9:30 am Tuesday at the Annunciation Church for John Cavanaugh, 76, former Coon Rapids, area farmer who died Sunday at the Iowa Soldiers Hospital, Marshalltown.The Rev RE Doughery officiated and burial was in the Catholic cemetery. Military rites were given by Gurney Parker Post No 357 of the American Legion. The rosary was recited Monday evening at 8 o'clock in the Huffman Funeral Chapel, led by Rev Dougherty. Mr Cavanaugh was born Jan 15,1885, at Boone, a son of Michael and Elizabeth Williams Cavanaugh. He was a veteran of World War I and a retired farmer. He was single. Before entering the hospital at Marshalltown, Mr Cavanaugh had been in a nursing home and at Veterans Administration Hospital in Des Moines. Surviving are two sisters, Agnes Cavanaugh, Coon Rapids, and Mrs Adeleski (Alice) Engleston, Tama. His parents, four sister and five brothers preceded him in death.
