Sudden Death of a Carroll County Pioneer.

Peter Okken died yesterday morning at the Farmer's hotel from heart failure, aged 53 years.

The deceased was born in Weener, Germany, and has been a resident of Carroll county for seventeen years, and during that time had acquired numerous and steadfast friends.

One of the sad features connected with the death of the deceased is the fact that on Sunday afternoon he called at The Sentinel office and procured a copy of The Daily, and after conversing a few minutes with Mr. Miller and Geo. Wetherill he started across the street when he was suddenly taken ill and fell in the road. Immediate help was at hand and he was taken into Mr. Staak's house, where he remained until he was able to be taken to his boarding house.

The deceased leaves numerous relatives to mourn his loss, among whom are, H. Hessling and Mrs. Wm. Becker, cousins, and Mrs. Glessine Okken, sister-in-law, living in Grant township, and Jurren Jurrens, a nephew living at Ackley.

Mr. Okken left a will in which he bequeathed $500 to his sister-in-law, Mrs. Glessine Okken, and the balance of his property to his nephew, Jurren Jurrens.

The funeral of the deceased will occur Wednesday.
