Mrs. Sarah Light

Mrs. Sarah Light, mother of William and Joseph Light, of this city, passed away at the home of her son, William, at ten o'clock Tuesday morning, after having been in poor health for a few months, and seriously ailing for several weeks past. Death was due to anaemia.

Mrs. Light, nee Sarah Strohm, was born in Pennsylvania March 7, 1843, and married in Lebanon, Pa., January 13, 1870, to William B. Light. Their early married life was spent on a farm in Pennsylvania, but later Mr. Light became a lumber dealer, conducting a planing mill in Lebanon county. On the seventh of January, 1888, they arrived in Carroll county and for a few years engaged in farming in Eden township. Later they moved to Guthrie county, where they spent seven years on a farm. At the end of that time Mr. Light retired from active life and they moved to this city. On March 13, 1900, Mr. Light died while on a visit to the east, and since that time Mrs. Light has made her home with her sons.

Mrs. Light was a home-loving woman, interested in the church and its activities. When a young woman she united with the United Brethren church, but since her residence in this city has been attending Methodist services. She had a kindly word for everyone, and enjoyed the love of a host of friends.

Besides her sons she leaves a sister, Mrs. Cyrus Mark, of Evanston, Ill., and two brothers, J. A. Strohm of this city and Jacob, of Des Moines. The funeral was held this morning at 10:30 from the Methodist church.

(Contributor note: William Light actually died in Pennsylvania in April 1901. - J.C.)
