Mrs. C. Holstein, 94, Dies Friday; Services Sunday

Deceased Was Oldest Member of St. Paul Lutheran Church

Mrs. Caroline Holstein, age 94 years 7 months, and 14 days, the oldest member of St. Paul Lutheran church, and perhaps the oldest resident of Carroll, died yesterday afternoon at 3:45 at the home of her son, Gustov Holstein. Death was due to old age and complications.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:15 from the Huffman Funeral home, followed by the regular church services at St. Paul Lutheran church, with the Rev. A. J. Mueller in charge. Burial will be in the city cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Fred Kroeger, John Platt, John Beidler, C. H. Clausen, W. C. Baak, and Jacob Sievers.

Caroline Kurs was born July 1, 1840 at East Prussia, Germany. She was married in 1865 to Gottlieb Holstein. In 188 they came to America and settled at Crete, Neb. To this union 12 children were born, Gustov being the only child living. Mrs. Holstein also had four stepchildren, of which one daughter, Mrs. Dick Tapper of Albany, Ore., survives. There are 28 grandchildren, a number of great grandchildren, and several great great grandchildren also surviving.

Mr. and Mrs. Holstein made their home with their son after his marriage, coming to Carroll from Crete, Neb., about 20 years ago. Mrs. Holstein had lived with her son for about 30 years. Her husband died Aug. 16, 1912.
