Carroll Woman Succumbs After Long Sickness

Mrs. Margaret Hillmer Had Been Failing Several Years

Funeral Services Will Be Held Saturday At St. Joseph

Mrs. Margaret Hillmer, 77, a resident of Carroll for the past 43 years passed away at 6 o'clock this morning in St. Anthony hospital. She had been in failing health for the past several years and entered St. Anthony hospital a week ago last Sunday. She submitted to a major operation Monday morning and seemed to rally a little at times, but gradually grew weaker until her death.

The body is at the Kircher-Dietrich Funeral home. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning in St. Joseph church. Very Rev. P. T. Lynch will read the requiem mass. Interment will be made in the family lot in the city cemetery.

Mrs. Hillmer, a resident of Iowa for the past 66 years was born on June 21, 1858, near Nuremberg, Germany, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Gegner. She accompanied her parents to America when 11 yeas of age. Her parents located in Des Moines, Ia. She grew to womanhood in that city and in 1878 became the bride of Henry Hillmer.

Came Here in 1892

The couple lived in Des Moines until 1892 when they came to Carroll where they lived since.

Mr. Hillmer was employed as engineer on the Chicago and North Western railroad.

Mr. and Mrs. Hillmer were the parents of six children. Two sons preceded their mother in death. Oscar died two and a half years ago and Frank passed away at the age of 9 years.

The following children survive: Louis Hillmer of Omaha, Mrs. Ed Albertson (Bess) of Carroll, Mrs. J. J. Brucher (Flo) of Kadoka, S. D., and Harry Hillmer of Carroll.

After her husband's death in 1920, Mrs. Hillmer and her son, Harry and family made their home together.

Mrs. Hillmer was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister, who passed away many years ago. She was the youngest child of the family.

She was a member of the Woman's Auxiliary of the Brotherhood of Engineers.
