Aunt of Vice-President Dies At Maple River

Mrs. Arminda T. England, Ninety-Three Last Monday, Lived Here 34 Years.

Mrs. Arminda T. England, a pioneer resident of Carroll county, died at her home in Maple River at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, after an illness of a week, following a stroke of paralysis. She was 93 years and 2 days old, having celebrated her birthday on Monday of this week, and on the day of her death had resided in the county exactly thirty-four years.

Mrs. England was the daughter of David and Sarah Witter, and was born in Union county, Ohio, March 12, 1824. Her father was a business man and sheriff of the county of her birth. The family moved later to Logan county, Illinois, where she was married on October 26, 1845, to George Downing, who lived but a few years. After his death she was married, on January 25, 1855, to John M. England, and they moved to this county in 1883, where she has since resided.

Two surviving children by her first marriage, Mrs. Sarah A. King, of Decatur, Ill., and Mrs. Arminda Vaughn, of Atwood, Ind., and three children of the latter, John J. England, of Omaha, and Mary J. and James W. England, of Maple River, are left to mourn her death. One sister, Mrs. P. B. Cole, of Marysville, Ohio, is ninety-eight years of age and is the mother of the deceased wife of former vice-president Charles W. Fairbanks.

Mrs. England united with the M. E. church in 1855 and has been a devoted member since that time. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. The funeral will be held Friday at 3 o'clock from the Methodist church in Carroll, Rev. R. B. Sheppard officiating, and burial will be made in the Carroll cemetery.
