Pioneer Resident Died Here Tuesday

C. B. Emmons Had Been a Resident of Carroll County for More Than 50 Years.

C. B. Emmons passed away at the St. Anthony hospital at 7:50 o'clock Tuesday morning, never having regained consciousness since Tuesday evening, Nov. 3. On the evening he took sick he had spent the entire day working in his yard sawing wood and after completing his work walked in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Edward Franzwa, on West Bluff street. The distance was long and it is thought that the work of the day and the exertion of walking was too much for him. He was taken critically ill when at the home of his daughter and was removed to the hospital Sunday. His death was due to urenic poisoning.

Charles B. Emmons was born in New York state September 9, 1844, and when a small boy moved with his parents to Wisconsin. He lived in the vicinity of Stoughton, Wis., until he grew to young manhood. His marriage to Miss Marie S. Butler took place at White Creek, Wis., October 29, 1865. They continued to live in Wisconsin a year or longer when they came to Iowa, living first in Black Hawk and then in Butler county. They came to Carroll county in the fall of 1872 and lived on a farm for 20 years. Mr. Emmons then retired from farm work and took up his residence in Templeton where the family lived a year, coming to Carroll at the expiration of that time. The family home has since been established in this city.

Of the eight children born to Mr. and Mrs. Emmons, five with the wife survive. Two children died in infancy and one at the age of 3 years.

The surviving children are Mrs. Z. P. Craft of Madison, Wis.; Frank Emmons, Carroll; Oscar E. Emmons, Fremont, Neb.; Harvey Emmons, Des Moines, and Mrs. Edward Franzwa of this city.

He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, and by his brother, Chandler A. Emmons of Fort Dodge, the only surviving member of a family of nine children.

Funeral services will be held at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. E. P. Franzwa, on West Bluff street, this afternoon at 2 o'clock.
