John Albers Dies at Templeton Home

Was Victim of Bright's Disease

Had Been Active in County School Work and in Politics of the County -- Appointed Postmaster Under Present Administration -- Buried on Monday.

John M. Albers, postmaster at Templeton, died at his home in that place at 3 o'clock a.m. Friday, Aug. 13. The cause of death was bright's disease from which Mr. Albers had suffered for about two years. The deceased was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, August 23, 1856, and would have been 59 years of age had he lived until the approaching anniversary of his birth. While he was yet a young boy his parents moved from Cincinnati to Clayton county where he grew to manhood. At about twenty-one years of age he came to Carroll county and has ever since made his home in Eden township. He was well educated having spent several years at college in Dubuque and at Milwaukee and rendered excellent service as a school teacher in the schools of Carroll county. He was engaged in business at Templeton for some years and was appointed postmaster at that place under the present administration.

Mr. Albers was married some time in the eighties to Miss Caroline Schwaller, who survives him with three sons and two daughters. Henry is married and lives in Chicago, and two daughters, Sister Anaclede and Sister Jeanette, are in a convent at Racine, Wisconsin. The others are all residents of this county, their names being: John, Fannie, (Mrs. Morris Doran), Mamie, Willie and Antoinette. Five sisters of the deceased survive him, their names being Mrs. Catherine Stevens, Mrs. Sylvester Urbany and Mrs. John Roth, of Carroll, Mrs. Mary Segur, of Bancroft, Iowa, and Mrs. Anna Schwaller, of Templeton.

The funeral was held Monday morning at 9 a.m. at the Catholic church in Templeton and burial was made in the cemetery of that parish. The following persons from a distance were in attendance at the funeral. A niece of the deceased, Miss Annie Miller, of Clayton county, Iowa; Mrs. Mary Segur and son, John of Bancroft, Iowa; Mrs. Robert Laughlin and two daughters, from Hastings, Nebraska.
