CLARENCE MASCHING

Clarence Masching, 67, of 412 East Bluff Street, Carroll, died at 12:50 p.m. Thursday, March 26, at St. Anthony Hospital. He had been in failing health for several years and hospitalized for the last four months.

Requiem mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday in Holy Spirit Church by the Very Rev. Leo Lenz, V.F. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Arrangements are in charge of the Sharp Funeral Home, where friends may call starting at 7 p.m. Saturday. The rosary will be recited at 8 and 8:45 p.m. Saturday and at 3, 8 and 8:45 p.m. Sunday. The 8 p.m. recitation Sunday will be for Holy Spirit parishioners and members of the Holy Name Society of the parish.

Mr. Masching was born Jan.11, 1903, at Loretta, Ill., a son of Andrew and Mary Masching. At the age of five, he came with his parents to a farm one mile southeast of Carroll and later moved to the Roselle vicinity. He spent his young manhood in this vicinity and on Feb. 14, 1927, was married to Catherine Gehling at SS. Peter and Paul Church, Carroll, with the Rev. Anthony Ocken officiating.

The couple established their home three miles north of Roselle. In 1932 they moved to a farm 2 1/2 miles south of Carroll where they lived until retiring and moving to the present home in Carroll in January, 1960. Mr. Masching was a member of Holy Spirit Church and the Holy Name Society of the parish.

Surviving with his wife are ten children, including Louis of Lidderdale, Mrs. Leo (Rose Mary) Schon, Glidden; Edwin, Mrs. Donald (Evelyn) Wieland, Mrs. Paul (Lorraine) Wieland, Mrs. Orville (Edna) Ludwig, Mrs. James (Mary) Pudenz and James, all of Carroll; Donald of Breda and Mrs. Charles (Lois) Neumayer of Redmond, Wash.; also 43 grandchildren; two brothers, George and Ralph Masching of Carroll; and a sister, Mrs. Kate Legner, Odell, Ill.

He was preceded in death by two infant children, three sisters and three brothers.
