CATHERINE GEHLING

Catherine Gehling, 90, of Carroll, died Friday, July 19. 1991, at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll, where she had been a resident since 1975.

Mass of the Christian burial was at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 22, at Holy Spirit Church In Carroll, with the Rev. Mervin Hood celebrant. Burial was at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carroll.

Lector for the Mass was Paul Fasbender. Gift bearers were Catherine Barron and Ryan Rath. Mass servers were Joey Nielson, Jason Gehling and Ryan Gehling. Casket bearers were Mark Gehllng, Brent Gehllng, Terry Rath, John Rath, Mike Gray, Duane Gehling, Tim Gehling and Tom Barron. Sharp Funeral Home In Carroll was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Gehling was born July 20, 1900, at Templeton, daughter of Frank and Mary (Kollmansperger) Hoffman. She grew up In Templeton where she attended Sacred Heart Schools.

When she was 13, her family moved to Peetz, Colo. On Sept. 6, 1921, she married Theodore Gehling at Peetz. Following their marriage, the couple farmed a mile south of Carroll until their retirement in 1951, when they moved to Carroll.

Mrs. Gehling was a member of Holy Spirit Parish in Carroll, the Parish Ladies Guild and the St. Anthony Nursing Home Garden Club.

She is survived by five daughters, Marie Von Eschen and her husband, Rod, of Carroll; Ann Rath and her husband, Herman, of Carroll; Lucille Jackley and her husband, James, of Carroll; Helen Gray and her husband, Charles, of Altoona;
and Freda Barron and her husband. Bill, of Niles, Mich.; four sons, Frank Gehling and his wife, Jean, of Carroll; John Gehling, and his wife, Marjorie, of Atlantic; Leonard Gehling and his wife, Irma, of Carroll; and Vincent Gehling and his wife. Donna, of Carroll; 31 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Theodore, in 1972; a son, Leo Gehling; a grandson, Robert Rath; two great-grandsons; three brothers, Peter, John and Frank Hoffman; six sisters, Sister Gerard Theresia, Johanna Sibenaller, Mary Kirsch. Rose Hackfort Nieland, Elizabeth Klocke and Sister Mercedes Augusta.
