A. W. Basom, an old citizen of this community, died Monday morning, March 5, at four o'clock. A. Winey Basom was born April 14, 1824, in Union county, now Snyder county, Penn., near Coller's Mills; was converted and joined the M. E. church, Oct. 23, 1848; married to S. L. McCurdy Sept. 7, 1848. In Nov. of 1855 he removed with his family to this county settling at Carrollton, and has resided continuously in the county ever since. There were born to them six children, three of whom survive him, Mrs. McDonald, Fremont, and Mrs. V. J. Winnett.
