H. Bruning, Sr., Succumbs at His Home in Breda

Breda (THNS) -- Herman Bruning, sr., 83, retired farmer, died about 6 o'clock Thursday evening at his home here. He had been seriously ill since suffering a stroke several weeks ago.

Funeral services are to be at 10 o'clock Monday morning at St. Bernard's church and burial will be in the parish cemetery.

The body is being returned this afternoon from the Olerich funeral home to the family residence.

Funeral Services For H. C. Bruning Held on Monday

Breda (THNS) -- Funeral services were held at St. Bernard church at 10 o'clock Monday morning for Herman C. Bruning, 83, who died at his home here Friday evening. The Rev. Father LeRoy Frank officiated at the high mass. Burial was in St. Bernard's cemetery.

Mr. Bruning, resident of Carroll county for 67 years, was born April 13, 1861, in Grant county, Wis. At the age of 16 years he came to Carroll county with his parents, Bernard and Elizabeth Bruning, who were among the first pioneers to settle here. They located near Arcadia and moved later to a farm southwest of Breda.

Mr. Bruning was married March 1, 1881, at St. Bernard church here to Miss Anna Grote. They established their home on a farm southwest of Breda. Of nine children born to them, seven survive: Mrs. Elizabeth Riesselman, Butte, Neb.; Mrs. Rose Prenger, Norfolk, Neb.; Mrs. Bernadine Skalla, Colorado Springs, Colo.; Mrs. Dan Klein (Mae), Naper, Neb.; Mrs. Nick Goetzinger (Kate), Roselle; Herman Bruning, who resides on the home place southwest of Breda, and Laura Bruning, Colorado Springs, Colo. A son, Clem Bruning, died Dec. 19, 1918, and a daughter, Hilda, in infancy. Mrs. Bruning passed away Oct. 23, 1903.

On July 25, 1905, Mr. Bruning was married to Mrs. Anna Schmitz at Breda. Surviving with her, additional to the sons and daughters above named, are: 32 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and a brother, B. N. Bruning, of Breda.

Mr. Bruning farmed until the spring of 1915, when he retired. He had been a resident of Breda about 30 years.

He was a member of St. Bernard church and the Holy Name society of that parish. he also belonged to the Daily Times Herald Three Quarter Century club.
