Mrs. Richard Ricke Dead.

Word was received here yesterday of the death of Mrs. Richard Ricke at her home at Breda. It was not known that she was ill and her death came as a great shock to all her many friends. Indeed, she had not been sick, only complaining of feeling badly for a few days, and her family expected a fatal ending to her slight indisposition as little as others. Sunday morning early she arose, dressed herself, and asked her husband to get her a drink of water. He brought her the water and carried the empty glass back. While out of the room he heard a slight noise and hurrying back got to his wife's side just in time to hear her last breath.

Mrs. Ricke was a noble Christian woman. The family have resided in this county for over thirty years and in Breda for nearly twenty-five years. Her demise will be mourned by many besides the immediate family. Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at the Catholic church at Breda.

Every business house in town was closed Thursday during the funeral of Mrs. Ricke, showing the esteem in which the deceased was held here.

Mrs. Ricke, whose maiden name was Mary Fleege, and whose death was chronicled in Monday's Sentinel, was born in Langerich, Hanover, Germany, in the year 1844. When she was ten weeks old her parents emigrated to America and located at Galena, Ill., where she grew to womanhood. In the year 1865 she was united in marriage to Richard Ricke and four years later they moved to Iowa and located on a farm, three miles northeast of town, where they resided until the year 1878 when they moved to town. Mr. Ricke first engaged in the hardware business, but later disposed of this and engaged in the general merchandise business. Ten children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Ricke, four of whom died in infancy and six are living at the present time. The surviving children are: Henry of St. Anthony, Idaho, Mrs. J. W. Vanderheiden and Mrs. C. A. Bohnenkamp, Ben, Julia and Joe of this place. Besides these she leaves two sisters, Mrs. Ben Ricke of Williams, Iowa, and Mrs. Joe West of Haverhill, Iowa. Deceased was a noble, pure, christian woman and a tender, kind-hearted wife and mother. Although she had been a sufferer for years she bore her troubles with fortitude and never complained. Her life was one of noble works and she has gone to reap the reward of her labors. The funeral was held Thursday morning and after a solemn requiem mass at the Catholic church the remains were interred in the Catholic cemetery.
