Elderly Carroll Lady Died Monday

Funeral Services Conducted From St. Mary Church at Willey Thursday Morning.

Mrs. Elizabeth Schmitz passed away at her home Monday night, November 30, after being in poor health for the last two months. During part of the time she was able to be about but through the last days of her illness she was bedfast.

Being of a happy disposition, she kept up a splendid courage and very much enjoyed the visits of her children during her sickness. With the exception of Sister M. Theodoretta, who was unable to come because of illness, all of the children were able to visit their mother during the last few weeks.

Mrs. Schmitz before her marriage was Miss Elizabeth Stuckart. She was born in Sulm, Rhineland, Germany, August 2, 1862, and came to America with her parents June 16, 1870.

She was married to Theodore Schmitz in 1884. They first made their home on a farm near Manning and later located on a farm near Willey. Mr. Schmitz died in 1914 and shortly before his death purchased a farm near Dedham, where he inteded to move his family. His death changed these plans and while the farm still belongs to the family it was never occupied by Mrs. Schmitz.

Of the fourteen children born to Mr. and Mrs. Schmitz, nine survive; namely, Henry, William and Theodore of Carroll county; Elizabeth and Lena at home; Mrs. Theresa Von Bom of Petersburg, Neb.; Sister M. Detilla; Sister M. Korbina and Sister M. Theodoretta of La Crosse, Wis.

She is also survived by a brother, Valentine Stuckart, of Waterloo, and a sister, Mrs. Susanna Wirtz of Waterloo.

Mrs. Schmitz was a member of the S. S. Peter and Paul church of this city and was a member of the Rosary sodality.

She was a delightful little woman, interesting and pleasing to meet and full of the joy of living.

Funeral services were held this morning at 10 o'clock at St. Mary's church, Willey, Ia., and interment was made in the Catholic cemetery at that place.

(Contributor note: Per the 1915 obit of Theodore Schmitz, he died on 19 Feb 1915, rather than the 1914 date offered in this obit.)
