Margaret Hauck Hoffard was born in Baton, Germany, in the year 1821 on the 16th of March and died Monday, September 1, 1913, aged 92 years, 5 months and 26 days. At the age of 14 she left the fatherland and immigrated to America locating with her parents at Lewis county, New York. In 1842 she was united in marriage to Adam Hoffard, to this union eleven children were born, six of whom are living. They are: Mrs. Elizabeth Palzer, Mrs. K. M. Fritz, Adam, Frank, Peter and Benedict. In 1856 they came to St. Louis and five years later returned to New York, but they still craved for the west and three years later they returned to Clinton county, Iowa, and in 1876 they came to Mt. Carmel, Iowa, and later moved to Arcadia where they have resided for thirty years. Twenty-six years ago her husband passed away leaving her with a large family but she managed to raise them all. Mrs. Hoffard was a devout Catholic and a member of the Christian Mothers and a good mother. She was remarkable for her energy and she would walk to church in any kind of weather. The past year age began to tell and she had failed until the tired body gave out and she passed away like one in a sleep. She had lived a beautiful life and went to meet her Maker. May her soul rest in peace. The funeral was held Thursday from the St. John Catholic church, services by Rev. Schulte and interment was made at the Catholic cemetery.

We miss thee, loving mother,
From thy familiar place;
We do not hear they foot steps near
Nor see thy cheeful face.
