Death of Peter Lovely

Our citizens were shocked last Thursday to hear of the sudden death of Peter Lovely who died suddenly of heart trouble, or congestion as Dr. Garvin pronounced it. Mr. Lovely ate a hearty breakfast in the morning and went out to prepare his garden for the plowing. He worked hard, became thirsty and went into the house for a drink of water. With the dipper in his hand he fell to the floor. At first his good wife thought he had fainted but in a few minutes he was cold in death. Dr. Garvin was called but he came too late. Peter Lovely was born in Smith Falls, Canada, in 1844, and died April 11, 1912, aged 68 years. He came to Iowa thirty-five years ago. First he stopped in Wisconsin working in the timbers. He came to Iowa with his brother, James, and they purchased the farm now owned by Henry Kohorst where they lived for a number of years. Later they sold the farm and Mr. Lovely purchased a fine farm four miles south of this town. He sold this at a handsome profit and purchased another in Crawford county. Mr. Lovely was a good genial fellow, always jolly and ready to help a friend in need and his sudden departure cast a gloom over the community. The funeral was held Monday from St. John's church and interment made at the Catholic cemetery. He was married January 8, 1894, to Marie Killeen. No children blessed this union. Those who attended the funeral from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. James Lovely of Elkton, South Dakota; James Curren and sisters of Omaha; Mrs. Wegon of Omaha; Mrs. F. F. Kenny of Omaha; R. Kenny of Omaha; Mrs. H. Lovely of Omaha; Miss Marie Harrington of Omaha; J. F. Gross of Omaha; Mrs. G. W. Cox of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. M. Welsch of Boone; Ed Killeen and daughter of Carroll; John Farrell of Prescott, Iowa; Joe Heider of Carroll and Nic Neu of Carroll. Mr. Lovely was a devout Catholic and three weeks previous to his death was stricken with an attack and at that time was prepared for death by Rev. Father Schulte.
