Caspar Schaben Died Monday At Home In Carroll

Had Been a Resident of This City for More Than 50 Years.

Caspar Schaben, a resident of Carroll for the last 50 years, died at his home in the west part of town Monday morning, December 10, at 6:40 o'clock, after an illness of some time, due to the infirmities of age and complications. He was surrounded by ten of the eleven children when the end came.

Mr. Schaben was born at Wiedershoven, Germany, March 28, 1847, and came to America at an early age. He was married at Cassville, Wis., November 17, 1874, to Miss Catherine Wahl of that city. Following their wedding they lived in Cassville four years before coming to Carroll, Iowa. Four years ago on November 17, 1924, Mr. and Mrs. Schaben had the pleasure of celebrating their fiftieth wedding anniversary, when all their children, except Henry Schaben of Oakland, Calif., were with them. At that time they renewed their marriage vows at an impressive and beautiful service in the SS. Peter and Paul church.

For many years Mr. Schaben was employed by the city as stationary engineer at the city water works. He was a friendly, happy man, who loved his home sincerely. Since the death of his wife, February 5, 1928, he failed rapidly and the untiring efforts of his children and their solicitation and loving care meant much to him in his illness.

Surviving are eleven children and twelve grandchildren. The children are Mrs. Charles Collins of Fort Dodge; Miss Lena Schaben, Omaha; Chris Schaben, Omaha; Mrs. Robert Gennert, Omaha; Mrs. M. A. Meyers, Sioux City; Mrs. A. H. Bailey, Des Moines; Mrs. George Parr, Carroll; Mrs. W. J. Riley, Omaha; Lambert and Ann, at home. Henry of California was unable to attend the funeral, which was held at the SS. Peter and Paul church this morning, December 12, at 9 o'clock.
