Word reached the city Tuesday morning that Mrs. J. H. Bruning had passed away at three thirty that morning from pneumonia with which she had been sick but a few days.

About two weeks ago Mrs. Bruning left for Davenport with Mr. and Mrs. Peter Banscher to make her home with them in that city. She had somewhat of a cold upon leaving but it was not severe and she thought nothing of it. The extreme cold weather and the inconvenience of moving however, added to her cold and pneumonia set in. Her sister, Mrs. W. M. Shirley, left for Davenport Monday to assist in caring for her but she died before the arrival of her sister.

Mrs. Bruning was the oldest daughter of A. L. Gnam of this city and has made Carroll her home for many years. She was born March 10, 1858. After her marriage to J. H. Bruning they resided in Breda where Mr. Bruning was engaged in the mercantile business. After his death she moved to this city, purchasing a home on the corner of Eighth and North West streets. She resided here until the marriage of her daughter, Mayme, to Peter Banscher and has made her home with them most of the time since.
Mrs. Bruning was a kindly woman and was very devoted to her church and family. There was nothing which she would not do to help a friend and she in turn was beloved by every one.

Besides her son, Edward, and daughter, Mrs. Banscher, she leaves four brothers, Charles, Albert, John, and Henry Gnam, also three sisters, Mrs. John Powers, of Chicago; Mrs. Shirley, and Mrs. Rogers, of El Paso, Texas.
The funeral will be held Friday morning at 8:30 from the church at Breda and she will be laid to rest beside her husband in the cemetery there.

Mrs. J. H. Bruning, a former resident of this place, but recently of Carroll, died at the hospital at Davenport Tuesday, February 13, at 2:30 a.m. of pneumonia, contracted while moving to Davenport. Deceased was born at Breda in 1858 and in 1881 was united in marriage to J. H. Bruning, who was then in the mercantile business here. In 1888 they removed to Carroll where Mr. Bruning filled an appointment as county recorder. Shortly after the expiration of his term of office he returned to Breda, where they resided until his death, which occurred in the fall of 1890. The following year, Mrs. Bruning removed to Carroll with her children, Edward and Mayme, where she resided until the marriage of her daughter to Peter Banscher when she made her home with them. A short time ago she arrived at Breda for a visit with relatives and friends and seemed in the best of health except for a slight cough. She is survived by her father, A. L. Gnam, of Carroll, four brothers, Charles, Albert, John and Henry, all of Carroll; two sisters Mrs. W. M. Shirley, of Carroll, and Mrs. Powers, of Dubuque; one son, Ed, of Carroll, and one daughter, Mrs. Peter Banscher, of Davenport. The remains were shipped here Friday from Carroll. Services were immediately held at the Catholic church after which she was laid to rest beside the body of her husband in the Catholic cemetery. Charles, Albert, John and Henry Gnam,A. T. Bruning and W. T. Bohnenkamp, all of Carroll, acted as pall bearers.
