Carroll Man Was Taken With Cramp and Lost His Life

Jos. Donahue Swimming in Pool at Coon Rapids Sunday Afternoon.

Sisters in East Have Been Notified of Death -- No Inquest Has Been Held Over Body.

Jos. Donahue, aged 49, died in the Coon Rapids swimming pool about 4 o'clock last Sunday, and according to reports from one of his companions, he was taken with a cramp and died without being able to warn other swimmers that he was in danger.

He was said to be an expert swimmer, and had been swimming in the pool for some time. He was in the habit of swimming under water, and when he went down, he failed to give any signal, and swimmers who happened to see him at about the time he did go down, paid no attention to him, as he had been giving a fine exhibition of swimming.

Jos. Donahue was an orphan boy who came here from the east when a small boy. He was taken into the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dultmeier of Roselle, and raised to manhood. He was a carpenter by trade, and was said to be a good carpenter, and was employed a good share of the time.

Several years ago he married, but his wife died and since that time he has been living much of the time at the City hotel.

He was accompanied on his trip to Coon Rapids by Mr. Hackert, T. J. Drees and Jos. Lammers, and Mr. Donahue and Mr. Lammers were in the pool enjoying themselves while Messrs. Hackert and Drees were on the bank, watching the swimmers.

And of course no blame is attached to anybody for the sad accident, as no warning was given that all was not well.

The body was brought to the Gregory funeral home Monday evening and no funeral arrangements have yet been made as no word has been received from the sisters in the east.
