L. G. Meinhardt Dies; Formerly on City Council

Rites Wednesday for Retired Farmer, Long Time Resident

Lorenz G. Meinhardt, 83, of Carroll died about midnight last night at St. Bernard's hospital, Council Bluffs, where he had been a patient the last few weeks. He had been in failing health the past three years and seriously ill, the past four months.

Mr. Meinhardt's brother, the Rev. N. P. Meinhardt of Clinton, will officiate at the requiem mass, which will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday at SS. Peter and Paul's church. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

The rosary will be prayed at 8 o'clock each night before the final rites at the Olerich Funeral home, where the body is resting.

Mr. Meinhardt, a retired farmer, was a former city councilman.

He was born June 6, 1868, at Davenport, Ia., a son of Philip and Regina Meinhardt. He attended a rural school north of Davenport.

Coming to Carroll county in 1894, he had lived in Carroll or vicinity since then.

He was married at Vail in 1898 to Elizabeth Hoffmann, who died 40 years ago. A son, Frank, died in infancy.

Surviving are one son, Joseph P. Meinhardt, Carroll, a daughter, Marie Meinhardt, Washington D. C., two grandchildren and one brother, Fr. Meinhardt of Clinton.

Mr. Meinhardt was a member of SS. Peter and Paul's church and an honorary life member of Charles Carroll Council No. 780, Knights of Columbus.
