Mrs. Christina Reineke
Mrs. Christina Reineke, widow of William A. Reineke, died at her home in Grant Township last Friday, August 8, following a stroke of apoplexy which lasted but about fifteen minutes. She had been ailing for several days, but was not considered seriously ill until stricken with the fatal stroke.
Mrs. Reineke was born January 1, 1847, and was a native of Schleswig-Holstein, her maiden name being Christina Claussen. She came to America in 1869, and was married that same year to William A. Reineke at Newton, Iowa. Three children survive, Mr. Reineke having passed away June 21, 1903, and three other children died in infancy. The family have been residents of Carroll county for about 35 years.
The surviving relatives are three daughters, Theresa, Mary and Caroline, all at home, who, with the mother, have been maintaining the home farm since the death of their father. Three sisters and four brothers reside at Newton and Kilduff, Iowa, one of them, Henry Claussen, of Kilduff, together with his son Ralph, being present at the funeral. Other brothers and sisters were prevented from coming by illness.
The funeral was held Monday morning at 9 o’clock at SS. Peter and Paul’s. Mrs. Reineke was a lifelong Catholic and a devoted wife and mother, and numbered her friends by the score. Her passing is hailed with regret in a wide circle of friends and acquaintances.
