I translated the following article from Der Carroll Demokrat, a German-language newspaper published in Carroll, Iowa, between 1874 and 1923. Any information in brackets or notes at the end are my own explanations. The article was originally published on Friday, 24 July 1908. It reads as follows:

[This was probably sent from Germany]
[Maria Walterscheid Wacker Rosauer]

Called Away

God the almighty has found it fitting, in the inexplicable ways of the Lord, to call to him in eternity my dearly beloved wife, our good mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and great-aunt, Mrs. Joseph Rosauer, formerly the widow Wacker, whose maiden name was Maria Walterscheid. She died of old age, passing away after receiving the Last Rights of the Catholic Church, following a illness that she bore with great patience, at the age of 85 years.

Your sympathies are requested by the survivors: Joseph Rosauer, the Dahlmann [or Dahlmanns] family, W. Wacker family, J. Michalk family, P. Wacker family, J. Wacker family, H. Wacker family, J. Mueller family, living in Essen-West, America, Werden, Osnabrueck, and Aachen, this 28th day of May 1908.

The funeral took place on Monday, 1 June 1908 at 8:00 o’clock in the morning from the deceased’s home in Essen-West, Nordstrasse 26; and thereafter the solemn Requiem was held in the St. Maria Himmelfahrt church there.
