I translated the following article from Der Carroll Demokrat, a German-language newspaper published in Carroll, Iowa, between 1874 and 1923. Any information in brackets or notes at the end are my own explanations. The article was originally published on Friday, 17 July 1908. It reads as follows:

Julius Kurtzhals

[Taken from the Kath. Wochenblatt (Catholic Weekly Paper)]

Julius Kurtzhals, a former reader of the Catholic Weekly Paper, and an old member of the St. Bonifacius Parish in Chicago, Illinois, departed this life last Sunday, following a five-day illness, at the age of 51 years, after having received Last Rights. He was born in West Prussia, and in 1871 he came from there to America, where he joined the St. Bonifacius Parish. He was also a member of the St. Bonifacius Singing Club and the Forestry Club [perhaps an outdoors club] of this parish. In addition to his widow, Sophia Kurtzhals, whose maiden name was Lamm, he leaves behind five children: Lizzie, Agnes, Karl, Margaretha, and Clemens. The funeral took place yesterday (Thursday, 7 July) from the home of the deceased, No. 607 W. Chicago Ave., and proceeded to the St. Bonifacius cemetery. Our sympathies to the grieving survivors.

Note: I believe this was published in the Carroll paper because the deceased had relatives in the Carroll area.
