Mrs. Kennebeck, Roselle Pioneer, Taken by Death
Death came to Mrs. Barney Kennebeck, 75, at her home in Roselle at 6 p.m. yesterday. She succumbed to a heart condition after an illness of only a few hours.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Angels church, Roselle, and burial will be in the parish cemetery.
The body is resting at the Sharp Funeral home, where the rosary will be prayed at 8 o’clock each night before the final rights. The Rev. Fr. Bernard Montag, pastor of Holy Angels church, Roselle, will lead the prayers Friday night.
Mrs. Kennebeck spent most of her life in the Roselle community. She was born Julia Meischeid, daughter of William and Anna Marie Eischeid [sic], September 5, 1873, in Germany. After the death of her father, she came to the United States with her mother, brother and sister in 1878.
The family settled on a farm two miles south of Roselle.
Her marriage to Mr. Kennebeck took place October 5, 1891, at the Roselle church, with the Rev. Fr. Ulrich Frey officiating. Fifty years later, the couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, with all of their children home for the occasion.
Mr. and Mrs. Kennebeck lived on their farm three miles east of Roselle for 47 years. They had resided in Roselle since their retirement.

Mrs. Kennebeck leaves her husband, 11 children, 51 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.Her children are Joe Kennebeck, Carroll; William Kennebeck, Carroll; Mrs. Fred Masching (Mayme), Colorado Springs, Colo.; Mrs. Fred Kraus (Emma), Glidden; Mrs. M.X. Hoffman (Mathilda), Carroll; Mrs. John H. Hoffman (Martha), Templeton; Ed Kennebeck, Scotch Grove, Ia.; Mrs. Tony Brincks (Margaret), Carroll; Mrs. George Gute (Rose), Carroll; Albert Kennebeck, Carroll; and Rita Kennebeck, Carroll.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Mrs. Peter Eischeid of Halbur, and brother William Meischeid of Saskatchewan, Canada.
Mrs. Kennebeck belonged to Holy Angels church and the Rosary sodality of the parish.
