I translated the following obituary from Der Carroll Demokrat, a German-language newspaper published in Carroll, Iowa, between about 1874 and 1920. It was originally published on Friday, 17 August 1894. Any information in brackets or notes at the end are my own explanations. It reads as follows:

[From Manning]
[Mrs. Anna Rohr]

The Manning Herold [Herald] reported the sudden death of the highly respected Mrs. Anna Rohr of Manning: “In her 37th year of life, the wife of our respected fellow-citizen Mr. Heinrich Rohr died on the afternoon of 9 August. A few days earlier, she had given birth to a little boy who, however, came dead into the world. Following the operation, the now-deceased appeared to be doing well, but things took a turn for the worse so quickly that the sad death struck Mr. Rohr and his many friends like a bolt of lightning from a cheerful sky. Mrs. Anna Rohr, whose maiden name was Anna Kelting, was born in Langenhorn, Nordschleswig, and she came to America about 15 years ago, where three years later she became the wife of Mr. Henry Rohr. In addition to the grieving husband, there are two children, girls aged 3 and 7, in mourning for their dear mother. The funeral will take place today, Friday afternoon, at two o‘clock. We entrust our deepest sympathy to the grieving survivors. In this hour of this difficult test, may Mr. Rohr take comfort in the inexplicable power of destiny. What is dust, must become dust; there are no exceptions."
