Taken from the Lidderdale Centennial Book:
Joachim and Sophia (Berns) Subbert.
Joachim, known as Joe, was born Nov. 11, 1852, in Carow, Mechlenburg, Schwerin, Germany. He came to the United States at the age of 23, locating in Wills, Illinois. He married Sopha Berns on Feb. 6, 1882, and the following year they came to Carroll County to make their home on a farm southeast of Lidderdale. They lived there about ten years, when they bought a tract of land about a half mile east of Lidderdale, where they lived until retirement in 1912. Mr and Mrs Subbert were good citizens and faithful members of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and were listed as a pioneer family in the 125th anniversary book of that church. Children of the Subberts were: Louise (Wellner) Subbert, Sophia (Wenck) Subbert, Herman Subbert, Elizabeth (Sievers)Subbert and John C. Subbert. In 1917 the Subert's daughter, Louise, died when her daughter, Berth, was born. Joe and Sopha raised their granddaughter, Bertha Wellner, as their own, bringing her into their home when she was only 5 days old. They gave her a loving home. Bertha has owned the home ever since her grandparents died and she and her son Rolland have lived in it since 1971.
