Taken from the Lidderdale Centennial Book:
Adam Jr. and Margaret SchleismanAdam Schleisman Jr. was born on Nov. 28, 1864, in Baden, Germany, a son of Adam Sr. and Katharine Krohmer Schleisman. Their last name was shortened later. He emigrated to the United States with his parents in 1867, at the age of 2 years, and lived near Rock Island, Illinois, until 1872. The family then moved to Sheridan twp. in Carroll Ia. where they located on a farm 3 miles north, 1 mile west and half mile north of Lidderdale, known as "the home place".
Adam farmed with his father in his early years. He married Margaret Katharine Daniel at St Peters Catholic Church in Beaver Dam in 1892. They met at a house dance while Adam was visiting and selling farm products in Wisconsin. They were married in two weeks and came back to live with Adam's parents for a short while. Adam ran a store and a post office and Maggie ran a boarding house. Their four children were born at Kentner: John W. was born on Dec. 12, 1893, Elmer T. was born on Feb. 15, 1895, Ralph J. was born in 1897 and died March 20, 1901, and a daughter died in infancy. The family moved back to the "home Place" and continue farming after Adam Sr. died and Katharine lived with them until she moved to Carroll. Adam purchased the "home place" and eventually bought a farm near Pocahontas, Iowa, and 120 acres west of Lidderdale. In 1916, they built a bungalow home in Lidderdale and the family moved to their new home. They were among the first families who helped establish Holy Family Church. Adam and Maggie were financially secure until poor crops and low prices for farm products forced them to either sell or mortgage their land. They chose to mortgage their holdings and eventually lost all of their land. Adam died on April 26, 1925, and was the first person to be buried in the Holy Family Parish Cemetery. Maggie was the seventh child of Conrad and Anna Eiden Daniel, She was born on Oct. 27, 1872, at Jefferson, Wisconsin. After Adam's death she remained in her home in Lidderdale. She was known as a good cook and a hard worker. She kept boarders even after she moved to Lidderdale. She dressed nicely, and liked good clothes, gloves and hats. There was always a fresh pot of coffee and lunch for her many friends and relatives who visited her. She died on Aug. 29, 1951 and is buried in the Holy Family Cemetery.
