Herman Peck was born in Optkove, Germany, on Oct. 3, 1830. He married Margaret Grohn on April 5, 1857. She was born in BonBiest 7, Veserfane, Germany, on Nov. 17, 1832. The couple came to America in June of 1857 shortly after their marriage. They settled in Dixon County, Illinois, because that is where Mrs. Peck's uncle lived. In 1869, they moved to Jones County in Iowa. Five years later in 1874, they moved to Carroll County and settled on a farm 1 mile north of Lidderdale. Their homestead was there until 1908. Then they moved to Lidderdale, Iowa. Mrs. Peck's brother John Grohn, lived with them and later with his niece, Hattie Hesslingh, near Carroll, Iowa. Mrs. Peck died at her home in Lidderdale on August 11, 1910. Mr. Peck went to live with his daughter, Mrs H. Hesslingh, in the fall of 1911 and he died there on May 12, 1912.
They were the parents of seven daughters and two sons. Mary (Crossett) was born Sept. 8, 1859. Ann (Ojers) was born on March 6, 1861. William was born on June 21, 1862. Margaret (Judge) was born April 5, 1865. George was born May 14, 1869. Tillie (Gotsch) was born Sept. 27, 1871. Minnie (Wohlenberg) was born October 28, 1874. Hattie (Hesslingh)was born on Dec. 18, 1876. Amelia who died April 11, 1879, was approximately one year old.
