John (Johann) Lux was born August 8, 2839, in Legelshurst, Baden, Germany, the son of Jacob and Catharina Lux. He came to America in 1862, settling in Erie, Pennsylvania. There he married Salomea(Selma) Knoblock, who had been born in Holzhausen, Germany. They married on July 13, 1862. In 1871 they came to Iowa, moving to a farm in Benton County where they remained for 5 years. They then moved to a farm northwest of Lidderdale where they lived until 1902 when they moved to the town of Carroll. John died March 16, 1929, and Selma died six weeks later on April 28. They were the parents of ten children, one of whom was John Henry Lux.
