Norma Ann Barkhaus
(February 17, 1938 - May 11, 2017)

Norma Ann Barkhaus – age 79, of Pomeroy, passed away Thursday, May 11, 2017 at the Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Norma Ann Slagle was born February 17, 1938 in Kelley, Iowa. She was the daughter of Harold and Edna (Womack) Slagle. On March 2, 1956, Norma married Dennis Barkhaus in San Clemente, California. When Dennis returned home from his military service, he and Norma lived near Fort Dodge. In 1976, they settled in Pomeroy. Norma worked in Pomeroy as a bookkeeper for Simplot Soilbuilders and then New Coop, before retiring in 2003. Norma was an active member of the St. John Lutheran Church; she served on the Ladies Circle, Altar Guild and Funeral Dinner Committee. She also volunteered as an election poll worker for many years. She enjoyed reading, gardening, her goldfish pond and a good cup of coffee. Norma especially loved spending time with her grand and great-grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, Dennis of Pomeroy; children, Julie (Ray) Hansen of Fort Dodge, Michael (Aleta) Barkhaus of Fort Dodge, Laurie Point of Pocahontas, Dennis (Terry) Barkhaus of Englewood, CO, James Barkhaus of Bemidji, MN, Audrey (Tony) Randolph of Rapid City, SD, Marjorie Anderson of Pine, AZ, Amy MacDonald of Phoenix, AZ and Daniel Barkhaus of Eagle Grove; 43 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; brother, Dale (Ruth) Slagle of Garner and sisters, Jean (Bob) Wilson of Clear Lake, Nadine Weaver of Clear Lake and Nancy (Frank) Johnson of Panora.
