Merilyn L. Passow
(October 10, 1933 - July 16, 2017)Merilyn L. Passow - age 83, of Pomeroy, passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2017, at the Mary-Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa, surrounded by his family. Merilyn Louie Passow was born October 10, 1933, near Pomeroy, Iowa. He was the son of Louis and Hilda (Mohr) Passow. Merilyn attended Colfax country school near Pomeroy and graduated from Pomeroy High School in 1952. After graduation, Merilyn entered the U.S. Army near the end of the Korean War and served in Panama. On August 5, 1956, he was united in marriage to Marcella Martens at the St. John Lutheran Church, Lizard Township near Palmer. The couple settled near Pomeroy, where they farmed and raised their family. In the Fall of 2009, Merilyn retired from farming and the couple continued to make their home on the farm. Merilyn was a lifetime member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Pomeroy and the NRA. He enjoyed trapping in his younger years, hunting, especially the shotgun deer hunt with the crew in Mount Pleasant, bowhunting, fishing, especially the long trips to the cabin at Bad Medicine Lake with family, getting together with the old gang for cards and fellowship and spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren great-grandchildren, brother and sister and their families. Merilyn passed along his passion for hunting and fishing to his family. Survivors include his wife, Marcella of Pomeroy; children, Bruce Passow of Pomeroy, Mark (Denise) Passow of Pomeroy, Brenda (Randy) Nehman of Fonda and Barb (Steve) Niehaus of Fonda; eight grandchildren, Lucas Passow, Adam (Shelby) Passow, Dylan Nehman, Amber Nehman, Emma Niehaus and Brittany Niehaus, Amanda (Jon) Cates and Jeff (Hannah) Niehaus; four great-grandchildren, Tinsley Passow, Abrey, Kinnick and Louden Cates; brother, Charles (Darlene) Passow of Pomeroy; sister, Sylvia (Loren) Jessen of Baxter; brother-in-law, Raymond (Jo) Martens of Cedar Rapids and several nieces and nephews.
