Raymond E. Korf - age 88, of Pomeroy, passed away Thursday, October 5, 2017, at the Accura Health of Pomeroy in Pomeroy, Iowa. Raymond Edward Korf was born August 20, 1929, in Pocahontas County, Iowa. He was the son of Edward and Dora (Dencklau) Korf. Ray attended country school and then Immanuel Lutheran School in Pomeroy. On November 27, 1949, Ray married Jean Becker at the St. John Lutheran Church in Pomeroy. The couple lived and farmed on various farms north of Pomeroy. They moved into town in 1959 and Ray was the manager at Simplot Fertilizer for several years. He then owned and operated Ray's Tap for several years, before going to work for the Pomeroy Coop. He retired from the Coop after 30 years of service. Jean passed away in 2007. Ray was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church, Lions Club and also served on the Fire Department for over 30 years, with many of those years serving as Fire Chief. Ray enjoyed camping, fishing, playing cards and traveling. Survivors include his children, Renee (Robert) Schwardt of Pomeroy, JoAnn (Charles) Peters of Palmer and Roger (Deb) Korf of Algona; 10 grandchildren, Carolyn, Cathy and Greg (Heidi) Mayton, Mindy and Monica Schwardt, Marla (Seth) Renze, Julia (Ryan) Seier, C. J. Peters, Ben (Jessica) Korf and Chelsea Korf and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jean; daughter, Carol Mayton; sisters, Frieda Siefken, Ida Burke and Ada Korf; two brothers, Alfred Korf and Norman Korf and son-in-law, George Mayton.
