Richard J. Seagren
(February 15, 1927 - August 26, 2018)Richard J. Seagren - age 91, of Pomeroy, passed away on Sunday, August 26, 2018, at the Marian Home in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Richard John Seagren was born February 15, 1927, near Fonda, Iowa. He was the son of Richard R. and Alveda (Johnson) Seagren. Richard was raised on a farm and attended area country school and graduated from Fonda High School in 1945. Richard was a WWII veteran having served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Hooper Island from early 1945 – 1948, which took him to such places as Hiroshima, Nagasoki and Sasebo, Japan and later to Tsingtao, China. He married Alice Mae Peterson on June 10, 1951, at Mission Covenant Church near Pomeroy. Richard and Alice made their home in the Fonda – Pomeroy area and farmed for most of their married life and attended Elfsborg Lutheran Church. Through the years, Richard enjoyed doing carpentry for many, served on the Pomeroy School Board and served over 40 years on the Pomeroy Care Center Board and Pomeroy Development Board. Richard also provided maintenance at the Pomeroy Care Center during his retirement years and assisted Michael Loterbour – Powers Funeral Home with funeral services. Richard and Alice enjoyed many years of travel to such places as Arizona, Texas, Hawaii, Norway and Sweden. Survivors include his daughter, Corine (Randy) Stucker of Lincoln, NE and son, Cordell (Shirley) Seagren of Fort Dodge; grandchildren, Brian (Dena) Kroska of Ankeny, Alisa (Dan) Meinecke of West Des Moines, Tom Kroska of Altoona, John (Heather) Vik of Firth, NE, Maren (Theodore) Wolff of Ames, Chad Nielsen of Ankney and Christa Seagren of Gilbert, AZ; 18 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Alveda Seagren; loving wife, Alice on June 5, 2015; daughter, Valerie Kroska, who passed away on November 28, 2002; sisters, Maureen (Leland) Dilworth and Eileen Seagren; brother, Roger (Violet) Seagren and father and mother-in-law, Elmer and Ada (Anderson) Peterson.
