Janice M. Meyer - age 81, of Pomeroy, passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2019, at the Pocahontas Community Hospital in Pocahontas, Iowa.
Janice Marie Peterson was born February 8, 1937, near Manson, Iowa. She was the daughter of Merle and Alice (Johnson) Peterson. She was baptized at the Augustana Lutheran Church in Manson and was raised on the farm, the oldest of five children. Janice graduated from Manson High School in 1955. She worked as a bookkeeper in Manson and Fort Dodge for several years. On April 20, 1958, Janice was united in marriage to Elmer Meyer at Augustana Lutheran Church in Manson. The couple settled near Pomeroy on the Meyer family farm, where they farmed and raised their three children, Brian, Joanne and Curtis. In 1983, Janice began an in-home day care service which she operated for 25 years and cared for over 60 children. In 2002, Janice and Elmer moved into Pomeroy.
Janice was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church, the church circle and J.F.F. Club. She enjoyed embroidery work and puzzles and she especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
Survivors include her husband, Elmer; children, Brian (Liz) Meyer of Pomeroy; Joanne (Jim) Von Dolteren of Ayrshire and Curtis (Amy) Meyer of Pomeroy; eight grandchildren, Ashley (Ted) Schnieders and Ben (Liz) Meyer, Amanda and Brandon Von Dolteren and Rose, Faith, Grace and Christopher Meyer; three great-grandchildren Eli and Arabelle Schnieders and William Meyer; brothers, Darrell Peterson of Austin, TX and Larry Peterson of West Des Moines; sister, Shirley Berg of Rockwell City and a sister-in-law, Barb Lenz of Twin Lakes.
