Obituary – Mrs. Lena M. Townsend
Lena M. Horn, daughter of George and Margaret Horn, was born in Helenville, Wis., Sept. 4, 1861, and died in Lake City on July 22, 1936. She was one of 11 children and in infancy was baptized in Zion German Evangelical Church at Helenville. On Dec. 16, 1882, she was united in marriage to E. W. Townsend. They established their home in Lake City where she continued to live until the time of her death. To this union were born three children, Mrs. G. R. Farley of Lake City, Mrs. H. A. Low of Minneapolis and Warren W. Townsend of Lake City. Others surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Yahn of Lake Mills, Wis., and Mrs. Anna Englesby of Spokane, Wash.; three brothers, Henry Horn of Spicer, Minn., Jacob Horn of Sumner and Andrew Horn of Hazel, S. D., and four grandchildren.

Had Lived There 53 Years; Was Prominent Figure in Easter Star
Advocate’s county news service, Lake City – Mrs. E. W. Townsend, 74, died Wednesday of last week. She and Mr. Townsend came here immediately after their marriage 53 years ago and she has made her home here ever since that time. She was the first candidate to be initiated into the Easter Star in the present Masonic Temple building, shortly after its completion in 1893. She has since been grand warden for the state O.E.S. organization. She has been worthy matron and held many other offices in the local chapter. Mrs. Townsend was a charter member of the Lake City Presbyterian church, having joined it at the time it was organized in 1886. She has also been a member of the Women’s Monday club for several years and has actively participated in its literary and social activities. She is survived by three children, Mrs. G. R. Farley of Lake City, Mrs. H. A. Low of Minneapolis and Warren W. Townsend of Lake City, four grandchildren, two sisters and three brothers.
