Theodore Zierke Sr.
(March 31, 1849 – February 18, 1934)

Obituary
Theo. Zierke was born in Prussia, Germany on March 31, 1849. In this province he was also baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. At the age of 15 he came to America and received employment at Brooklyn, N. Y. After acquiring enough funds he traveled westward and lived in Ogle County, Ill. Here he married Friederika Lembke in the year 1873. This happy union was blessed with 10 children, nine of whom are still living. One, Albert, having preceded his father in death. In 1875 he and his wife moved to Calhoun County, Iowa, where he farmed until the year 1975 [1895?], after which he retired and lived in Rockwell City. He had been a resident of Calhoun County for 59 years. During his entire lifetime of 84 years, 10 months, 18 days, he had never been ill up until his recent illness. He passed away Sunday, Feb. 18, 1934. He leaves to mourn his death nine children: Mrs. August Osborn of Yetter, Jennie Zierke of Rockwell City, Robert Zierke of Knierim, Otto, William, Theodore Jr., and Mrs. Otto Kretlow, all of Rockwell City, and Ernest and John, of Fort Dodge; 22 grandchildren and a host of friends.
