(October 6, 1942 - December 21, 2021)

Merlin R. Meyer - age 79, of Pomeroy, passed away on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at the Pocahontas Community Hospital in Pocahontas, Iowa. Merlin Ray Meyer was born on October 6, 1942, on the family farm near Jolley, Iowa. He was the son of Norman and Elsie (Franzen) Meyer. He was raised and attended school in Jolley, and graduated from Pomeroy High School in 1960. He was united in marriage on September 15, 1962, to Carol Teyen at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Pomeroy, Iowa. The couple made their first home in Pomeroy and then moved to an acreage west of town. In 1979, they moved to their current home in Pomeroy. Merlin was employed by Clarence Muse’s DX, Fort Dodge Gypsum, Iowa Industrial Hydraulics and then worked for his father-in-law, Lawrence Teyen, at KTK Trucking where he became partner and helped start and eventually owned Pomeroy Auto Parts. After selling his parts store, Merlin worked for Paul Johnson at his full service station until he retired. Merlin was a life-long member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Pomeroy where he loved singing in the church choir, being the handyman and serving as church treasurer. In his earlier years, he enjoyed playing fast pitch softball, where he was pitcher with his brother, Alan, as catcher. He also sang for many years with the Manson Meridian Singers. Merlin was an avid bowler and golfer where he made many lifelong friends. He was an enthusiastic Hawkeye and St. Louis Cardinals fan. He especially enjoyed watching his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids many activities. He loved his time spent visiting with his grandkids and great-grandkids at an annual vacation to Okoboji where fishing was a favorite daily activity. Merlin is survived by his loving wife, Carol of 59 years; sons, Scott (Melinda) Meyer of Belmond, IA, Todd (Lisa) Meyer of Bennington, NE, Dan (Heidi) Meyer of Ankeny, IA and daughter, Kelly (Monte) Allan of Parkersburg, IA; 12 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Karen Meyer of Omaha, NE and several nieces and nephews. Merlin was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Elsie; brother, Alan; father and mother-in-law, Lawrence and Tillie (Teyen) Mathiasen; step father-in-law, Bob Mathiasen; sister-in-law, JoAnne Marsh and brother-in-law, Jerry Marsh.
