Fred Peter Martens, son of Peter and Johanna Martens, was born in Schleswig, Germany, Jan. 20, 1879. He came to this country with his parents at the age of 3 years and lived in Chicago for two years. Then moved to Onslow, later settling in Rockwell City where he resided during his remaining years. He was confirmed into the Evangelical Lutheran Church on March 29, 1896 (and later joined the Methodist church of Rockwell City.) On Feb. 15, 1911, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Jansen of Onslow. To this union seven children were born, three preceding their father in death, two infants, and Marvin, aged 11 years. Mr. Martens had lived a noble, upright life. He was a kind husband and loving father and his interests were always centered around his family and home. He was taken ill about three years ago but was taken seriously ill about five weeks ago, and while all was done that medical skill and loving hearts could do, he passed away at his home Wednesday morning, March 28, 1934, at the age of 55 years, 2 months and 8 days. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, Mrs. Mary Martens; his two sons, Ray and Dale, and two daughters, Maurine and Ruth; his mother, Mrs. Johanna Martens of Rockwell City, his brothers, Charlie, Will and Walter of Rockwell City, and Albert of Los Angeles, Cal., and many other relatives and a host of friends.
