Christina Widlund
(January 12, 1853 – June 23, 1933)Obituary – Mrs. Frank Widlund
Christina Johnson was born January 12, 1853, in Jonkoping, Smaland, Sweden, and passed away June 23, 1933 at the age of 80 years, 5 months and 10 days after an illness of two weeks duration. She grew up and received her early training in the land of her birth. At an early age she gave her heart to God and to the last kept her strong faith in her Lord and Master. Nothing pleased her better than to be up and doing the will of her Master, and many were the sacrifices made for her faith. At the age of 18, she came to America and settled at Keokuk, Iowa, where she lived for about six years. In 1877 she came to Manson, Iowa, and was united in marriage to Frank Widlund, who preceded her in death five years ago. To this union eight children were born – three sons, Albin, Ernest and Harry; and five daughters, Selma, Hilma, Esther, Edith and Vinnie. The family made their home on the farm near Manson and did their bit, as early settlers, to build up the community. For the last year and a half Mrs. Widlund had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Joe J. Egli, near Pomeroy, where she passed away on Friday evening at 5:30 o’clock. She is survived by her three sons, Albin, Ernest and Harry, all of Manson; two daughters, Mrs. Edith Juday and Mrs. Vinnie Egli of Pomeroy; four sisters, Mrs. Louise Ostman of Courtland, California, Mrs. Clara Ostegren of San Francisco, California, Mrs. Huldt West of Hughson, California, and Mrs. Ida Anderson of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Two sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Augusta Carlson and Mrs. Lena Carlson, both of California, Charles and August Levene of Pocahontas preceded her in death. She is also survived by twenty grandchildren and one great grandchild, and other relatives. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Menonite Church with Rev. Nick Stoltzfus and Rev. A. R. Egli officiating. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. Source – Rockwell City Advocate and Calhoun County Republican, Rockwell City, Iowa, Thursday, June 29, 1933, p.8
