(October 15, 1861 – June 24, 1933)

Pioneer Woman Of County Passes Away
Mrs. Henrietta Wendt, a resident of Calhoun County for more than fifty years, died last Saturday morning at her home in Rockwell City, after an illness of several months duration. She was 71 years of age. Mrs. Wendt, whose maiden name was Henrietta Klewin, was born in the Province of Posen, Germany, on October 15, 1861. When she was 18 years old she came to the United States, locating near Rockford, Illinois. On February 1, 1881, she was united in marriage to Ferdinand Wendt. In March of the same year, they moved to Iowa, locating on a farm three miles east of Rockwell City, where they endured the hardships of pioneer life in Calhoun. Four children were born to this union. They are Albert Wendt of Bode, Iowa, Mrs. Rose Wetter and Edith Wendt of Rockwell City, and Mary Wendt of Sac City, Mr. Wendt passed away in 1899. Mrs. Wendt continued to reside on the farm until 1910, when she moved with her daughters to Rockwell City, where she since made her home. She was 71 years, 8 months and 15 days of age at the time of her death. Mrs. Wendt was confirmed at the age of 13 years in the Lutheran Church, and for many years was a faithful member of that church. She came to Rockwell City before the organization of the local Lutheran Church, and she and her family became identified with the Methodist Church. As long as her health permitted, she was a faithful attendant and worker in this church. In addition to her four children, she is survived by one sister, Mrs. Pauline Blaas of Rockwell City; three brothers, Gus Klewin of Rochelle, Illinois; Edward Klewin and Rhinard Klewin of Rockford, Illinois; four grandchildren and many other relatives. Funeral services for Mrs. Wendt were held from the Methodist Church in Rockwell City on Monday afternoon of this week, Rev. N. A. Price, pastor of the church officiating. Interment in Rose Hill Cemetery. Source – Rockwell City Advocate and Calhoun County Republican, Rockwell City, Iowa, Thursday, June 29, 1933, p.8
