Harold Fred Pell
(January 4, 1906 – August 12, 1934)Obituary
Harold Fred Pell, oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Carson Pell, was born at Rockwell City, Iowa, Jan. 4, 1906. At the age of three years he moved with his parents to Montrose, Colo., where they lived one year. Returning to Iowa they moved onto the farm one mile southwest of Lavinia, which has been Fred’s home ever since. After finishing district school at Garfield No.7 he attended the Rockwell City high school for one year and six weeks. After leaving school he became associated with his father on the farm. He was united in marriage to Miss Iris Stover of Rockwell City on Jan. 16, 1926. To this union were born one daughter, Beverly Jeane, and one son, Lyle Dean. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Pell moved to Lavinia in April 1934, on account of Fred’s failing health. Fred had not been well for about two years and in January he submitted to an operation in the hospital at Iowa City where he remained for about six weeks. Then in May he again went to Iowa City hospital but did not receive much benefit. He gradually grew worse, suffering terribly at times and on Aug. 3 he was taken to the Lake City general hospital where all that medical science and loving hands could do was done but it was of no avail for death came as a release from suffering on Sunday morning, Aug. 12, 1934. He leaves to mourn his departure his beloved wife, two children, his father and mother, three brothers, George, James, and Kenneth, his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Pell, four uncles and many friends. Fred was always a patient sufferer, never complaining and was cheerful until the end.
