Faye H. V. Johnson age 88, of Pomeroy, formerly of Pocahontas, passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2013, at the Pomeroy Care Center in Pomeroy, Iowa. Faye Helen Violet Johnson, the oldest of six children, was born September 16, 1924, near Pocahontas, Iowa. She was the daughter of Alvin T. and Helen L. (Carlson) Johnson. She attended rural school before graduating from Pocahontas High School in 1942. She attended Iowa State Teachers College (now UNI) for Rural Teaching and taught in rural schools in Pocahontas County for seven years. On November 24, 1950, Faye married Warren Johnson of Havelock at Elfsborg Lutheran Church. The couple lived on a farm southwest of Pocahontas until 1983, when they retired and moved into Pocahontas. In 2003, Faye entered the Pomeroy Care Center. Warren passed away in 2006. Faye had a beautiful voice, singing in the church choir, Pocahontas Community Chorus, and as a soloist for weddings and funerals. A devoted lifetime member of Elfsborg Lutheran Church, she served as a Sunday School Teacher for 24 years and held several offices in the LCW of which she was an active member. She was an avid reader, challenged by crossword puzzles, a seamstress and enjoyed a variety of handwork and gardening. Survivors include her daughter, Beth (Kim) Romohr of Randolph, NE; son, Kent (Sherri) Johnson of Pocahontas; three granddaughters, Melissa Romohr and Jennifer Romohr and Janelle (Tony) Franklin; one great-grandson, Caden Franklin; two step grandsons, Tommy (Amy) Baker and Steve Baker; step great-grandchildren, Bailey, Brad, Eva and Lizzie Baker; Gia Howell and Taylor and Josie Shirbroun; sisters, Norma Maigaard of Stockton CA; Delores (Howard) James of Lake Bluff, IL; Mavis (Stanley) Graven of Dallas, OR and Lorraine (Ronald) Mastin of Eau Claire, WI; and brother, Charles (Karen) Johnson of Belle Plaine, IA. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Marvella Johnson, Ione Ellis, Darlene Ferguson and Shirley Johnson and many cousins, nieces & nephews. Faye was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Warren; brothers-in-law, Len Maigaard, Glenn Johnson, Del Ellis, Dale Ferguson and Darrell Johnson and sister-in-law, Eileen Johnson.
